You already know exercise can help you lose fat, but what about exercise and your bone health?
Bone is living tissue that needs exercise and proper nutrition to stay strong. Exercises that work against gravity are the ones that help your bones. Walking, stair climbing, and dancing are good examples. Doing push ups or weight training helps upper body bones.
By age 30 most people have reached their peak bone mass. After age 30 it is up to you to maintain that bone mass.
Later in life some people develop osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a bone disease that has low bone mass and deterioration of the bone tissue. It is called porous bone for a reason. People with osteoporosis who fall can easily break bones. A hip fracture might be permanently debilitating. Read wheel chair. Something as simple as walking 3 times a week will help you avoid osteoporosis.
The other factor in bone health is nutrition. You will need calcium and vitamin D. Calcium is available in dairy products, broccoli, almonds, and calcium fortified foods. Vitamin D is free from the sun. Just be in the sun 15 minutes a few times a week. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium.
Exercise and bone health are closely linked. Only action counts, so don’t forget your walking and 15 minute sun exposure.
